Shadow and Light – the wonder of a form full existence is an exploration of awareness. While creating teaching material on light and lighting, my mind wandered into deep reflections on light and shadow. Light and shadow need each other; one cannot exist without the other.
When light touches an object, it casts a shadow. But what if light touches nothing.
Is there still light? And who notices its presence?
This project explores perception, consciousness, and lived experience through words and images. The video below shows the making of the work.
A poetic exploration
I was wondering
About a light-beam on its way
traveling through empty space
without encountering any obstacle.
Would this beam of light be aware of its own existence?
When I draw an object, a flat form
I imagine light arriving from the side
The beam hits the edge
an immediate shadow appears
Through this play of light and its absence,
a shape comes into being.
The light learns of its own existence.
And us.. our human experience holds much light and certain shadows.
Would one be aware without the other?
