About the Artwork

Inspired by the works of Jan Toorop after visiting an exhibition of his art, I created a series of portraits that draw from his style.
This particular portrait is distilled to its essence, reminiscent of lithography. It conveys a sense of defeat, a feeling of being utterly subdued, paired with a somewhat vacant expression.
Created in 2003 using digital painting techniques in Corel Painter, it was refined and stripped down to its core through post-production in Photoshop
