About the Artwork
Past Presence paints a picture of how the past is entangled in the present moment. as an intertwined fabric that breathes present, past and future simultaneously
It requires awe for existence and an open attitude towards every living being. After all, the person you meet today carries within him the past, the present moment, but also a future in the making.
The work consists of two elements:
On the one hand, the entanglement of old pain. Painted in colorful events anchored in the fabric of existence.
Secondly, the focus is on the experience in the present. Body and mind painfully aware of the feeling of powerlessness and the inability to immediately let go of old behavior.
Deep-rooted and painful events can still determine your behavior today. Often an unconscious process.
This calls for compassion and a degree of humility in one’s attitude toward existence.
A series mainly painted in Procreate and some post-processing using Adobe Lightwave and Photoshop.

Past-presence is part of the Embrace Project. In this project Lexa poses the question of how to relate to sometimes difficult feelings in life.
It’s al about being open to the emotional journey and finding ways to embrace these inner feelings.

Using an expressive brush in Procreate, the feeling takes shape. Sometimes abstract, sometimes narrative imagery. These are stories of deep embodiment and the experience of inner space and connection.
